Winter School on Algebraic Geometry
    - Algebraic surfaces and related topics

February 23-26, 2010, Phoenix Park (Pyeongchang)

Study on algebraic surfaces is still one of the most vibrant and active areas of research where algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and topology can interact. The aim of the school is to introduce basics and developments on algebraic surfaces to the advanced graduate students and researchers who are working on algebraic geometry. Two mini-courses will be delivered by M. Mendes Lopes and M. Reid. In addition, there will be exercise sessions and complementary seminar talks.

Following the school, there will be another winter school on algebraic geometry, which will be devoted to algebraic surfaces and their compact  moduli, in March 2-5 at KIAS.

The school is organized by KIAS in collaboration with the WCU program at Sogang University.

Invited speakers for minicourses:
Miles Reid (Univ. of Warwick / Sogang Univ.)
Graded rings and applications to constructing varieties

Margarida Mendes Lopes (Instituto Superior Técnico)
Surfaces of general type: geographical and botanical aspects

Other invited speakers:
Stephen Coughlan (Univ. of Bayreuth)
  - Some constructions of surfaces of general type with p_g=4
DongSeon Hwang (KIAS)
  - Rational Homology Projective Planes
Fabio Perroni (Univ. of Bayreuth)
  - The fundamental group of quotients of a product of curves
Francesco Polizzi (Univ. of Calabria / Sogang Univ.)
  - Triple planes with p_g=q=0

Organizers:
